Datasites differ from regular websites in that much of the content for your website is stored in a database installed on our server. When the same information appears on several pages throughout the website, using a database will streamline content delivery. Some websites should only be built as datasites because of their complexity of information.
With a datasite you can easily make your information available to the general public or just a select group of authorized users. Product lists can be displayed in rows and columns, but then sorted according to what the user wants. For example, one user may want to see the list from the highest price to the lowest price, but another user may want the opposite. The same page can do both with the click of a button or text link. Datasites offer greater display flexibility.
Instead of building a hundred webpages to accommodate a hundred different data sorting preferences, your datasite can actually build and deliver your webpages automatically based on what the user has requested. Using datasite methods, it is not uncommon to have a few server documents generate hundreds of thousands of unique webpages, in some cases.
Maintaining a datasite is also much simpler. Just update the data and all affected page displays will automatically reflect the same changes. We can provide this service as needed for an hourly fee, or as a monthly subscription. When you are ready to maintain your datasite content in-house we can provide the training required to accomplish a smooth transition.
Do I need to have a database on my own computer to have web datasite?
No. The database that runs your datasite is installed on our webserver.
We already use a database. Can our office data update our datasite data?
Yes. Several methods are now available to accomplish this. However, your office database may need to be upgraded to newer standards.
Can I use data that already exists someplace else on my own datasite?
Yes, but you may need permission to do so. For example, our real estate datasites use MLS data to show listings from other real estate companies. They are members of the local MLS and have permission to do this.
